3. Data We Collect

3.1 Contact Information

We collect your name, email address, and phone number when you create an account. This information is used to:

Authenticate your identity
Enable family members to contact you through the app
Send important service notifications

3.2 Location Data

Landline uses your device's precise location to determine whether you are at your designated "home" location. This is the core functionality of the app—calls only ring on phones that are home.

How it works: We use iOS geofencing to detect when you enter or leave your home area
What we store: Only your home address coordinates and current home/away status
What we don't store: Historical location data, location history, or movement patterns
Processing: Location detection happens on-device using iOS's built-in geofencing APIs

Your family members can see whether you are "home" or "away" but cannot see your precise location.

3.3 Identifiers

We generate a unique user ID when you create an account. This ID is used to:

Associate your account with your family group
Route calls to the correct devices
Sync your settings across devices

3.4 Usage Data

We collect basic usage information to provide and improve the service:

Call history (timestamp, duration, which family members were notified)
App settings and preferences
Feature usage patterns (aggregated and anonymized)

We do not record, store, or have access to the audio content of your calls.

3.5 Diagnostics

We collect crash reports and performance data to identify and fix bugs. This data is anonymized and not linked to your identity.

4. How We Use Your Data

We use your data exclusively for the following purposes:

App Functionality: To provide the core features of Landline, including call routing, family groups, and home detection
Account Management: To create and manage your account
Service Communications: To send you important notifications about the service

5. Data Sharing

5.1 With Family Members

Family members in your group can see:

Your name
Whether you are "home" or "away" (not your precise location)
Your phone number (if you've chosen to share it)

5.2 With Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

We may share data with:

Service Providers: Cloud infrastructure providers (for data storage and processing) who are bound by confidentiality agreements

Account Data: Retained while your account is active, deleted within 30 days of account deletion
Call History: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted
Location Data: Current home/away status only; no historical location data is retained
Diagnostics: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted
